Wimbledon Adopts Video Review Technology in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with video review technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.

Video review systems will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Competitors are granted the ability to question certain rulings from the official, mirroring the practice already in place at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This move follows just a year after the AELTC introduced electronic line calling, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review other situations, including:

  • If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body during play.
  • Possible hindrance end of a rally.

Notably, there is no limit on the amount of reviews a competitor can ask for.

Case in Point

A recent incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.

This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was out or in.

In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
